Science of Yoga Interview

William J. Broad interview on Science Friday (a radio program). Interesting chat with him, though I had to leave the car right when he started talking about injuries.

I've just got my copy of his book, but haven't had a chance to take a look at it yet -- it'll be interesting to see what it turns out to be like.

I heard the Fresh Air interview with him last week. In that interview he said that his position is basically that you're probably mostly safe as long as you have a teacher who knows their stuff, but that he's worried about beginners who are most at risk for injury not having a lot of protections in place when they pick a teacher. In that interview he went on a for a while about the tension between the spiritual side of yoga and some of the possible benefits of starting up an accreditation process. He also mentioned that the bit of his book excerpted in the Times was followed by a section where he made all of that clear, and that he's got some substantial flack over the chapter that was printed.

I'm not an expert by any means, so I'm not sure if this is a substantial improvement over the Times piece or not.
