Reposted Yoga Thoughts

I posted this on my account the other day, but figured y'all might like it, too.

My vinyasa teacher opened class with some thoughts. She commented that she's kept her class about the same for a few years now, because she wanted to give a consistent, up-beat, and engaging class. It is also teaching the stuff she enjoys.

She recently realized that part of it was also her not wanting to try and teach the stuff she isn't all that good at. Well, part of yoga is learning to go into those somewhat scary places in yourself. So, she has decided to change some things up, and challenged us to also embrace a bit of fear and not be so worried about failing.

It was at this that I realized part of why I go to yoga is to fail. Not only am I not worried about falling and looking foolish, I expect to fall. I want to fall.

If I'm not falling and failing every so often, then I'm not trying hard enough. You have to push at your boundaries to know where they are. You have to do it again, to test if they've moved. If you are growing as a person, they are going to move around.

I love yoga because it is a place and an activity that I feel completely safe in utter failure.
